A Day in the Life
Hi, I’m Suchita Wills!
I went to Montgomery High School where I received 4 A*s, 6 As, 4 Bs and a C. At The Blackpool Sixth Form College I am currently studying Economics, Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry and Critical Thinking. I decided to choose The Blackpool Sixth Form College for my choice of further education because I had received high recommendations about the College and they offered the subjects I feel most passionate about taking.
My day…
On Tuesdays, I have four lessons and one Study Period where I organise my work. Before any of my lessons actually start, I go to the FYi (College’s library and resource centre) where I check my e-mails on FirstClass to ensure that I have printed all the notes I may need for my lessons. My first session of the day is Mathematics. At the moment, we’re going through differentiation, a new concept at AS. My Maths sessions are normally incredibly eventful, as my teacher always manages to pack in a lot of teaching in his classes, as well as making jokes to keep us entertained.
After my break I have Economics, my favourite subject, as it is a new and intriguing subject which delivers depth and insight into the economy. Then, it is my Study Period, where after purchasing a few snacks and a bottle of water, I often go to the FYi to work on one of my assessments for Economics. I am currently working on an assessment based on the up and coming London 2012 Olympics and how this could benefit the economy. After my Study Period I have to make my way to English Language where I’m concentrating on my coursework - writing a piece to entertain readers. Mine is a fantasy story, which I am very proud of.
My last lesson of the day is Chemistry, where we are conducting experiments on ammonia acids. This, I was warned, was dangerous and highly toxic, but being a keen enthusiast, I got stuck into it whilst of course, making sure I had the
right safety protection on.
At the end of the day, I have a Student Council meeting, a great way to end the day. I enjoy the meetings and feel that, through becoming a member of the Student Council, I am able to make new, amazing friends as well as represent my views and the views of the students. Recently, we organised the Valentine Day’s dance, which was a huge success amongst my peers and it also helped to raise money for Oxfam’s Un-Wrapped Charity, where through ticket sales, the Council was able to raise money to build a classroom for a school in dire need of development in the Third World.

Hi, my name is Tom Moore
I moved to The Blackpool Sixth Form College from Hodgson High School where I achieved 7 A*s, 5 As and a B.
The subjects I am studying at the Sixth Form are Music, Music Technology, Maths, Geography and Critical Thinking. I chose to come to The Blackpool Sixth Form College because of the fantastic Music Department and the good results within the college.
I also liked the fact that studying at the College would allow me to be independent and to organise my own study time effectively.
My day…
A typical day starts off with me arriving at College at around 8am, I usually head straight to the Music Department where I meet some friends and practice the piano or use the computers to check my emails. At the moment in Music Technology we are preparing for our final coursework submission which includes a sequencing task, a multitrack recording and an arrangement of a set song in a chosen style.

|
My favourite part of the Music Technology course is definitely the multitrack recording in which I took Coldplay’s Clocks and recorded it by getting the musicians together, recording them and then creating a mixdown of the track.
|
At breaktime I usually go to the Common Room to meet up with friends before going to my second lesson which is Music. Music is my favourite subject and we always have a good time whether it is performing, composing, listening or even harmony. I really enjoy Music and hope one day to become a music teacher.
After this I have Maths, at the moment we are studying for Core 2, in which we learn the art of differentiation and integration. I like this topic as it is challenging but also has relevance within day to day activities such as finding gradients of curves for rollercoasters and other rides.
At lunchtime I usually meet up with friends to catch up on the days events and to continue with any homework that still may need doing. Geography is my next subject, we are studying coastal features in preparation for our end of year exam, and I find this very interesting as it explains how and why many things form such as the sand dunes in St. Anne’s. Finally I have a lesson of Critical Thinking in which I learn how to structure and find flaws in arguments.
This is a typical day at College however on a Wednesday lessons finish early and I spend the afternoon in the Music Department doing three recreational activities, these are Choir, Concert Band and Big Band. It is a chance to relax and to
use our musical skills to cover a wide variety of repertoire.
Out of College I spend most of my time playing music. I am a member of the Poulton Brass Band and the assistant organist and chorister of St Chad’s Church in Poulton. I am currently preparing to apply for an organ scholarship at one of the top
universities where I hope to read music.
