A World of Opportunities

Enjoying the whole College experience

As a student at The Blackpool Sixth Form College, you will have the opportunity to explore a whole world of opportunities. All our departments arrange visits to extend your knowledge beyond the classroom. Often these are exciting residentials where you get a chance to experience new aspects of the subject as well as having a great time.

There is also an extensive programme of “enrichment” which includes sports, recreational activities, work experience and one-off events.

Whatever you get involved in, you are certain to enjoy this important aspect of College life.

New York

Some of our Film and Media students spent a week in New York to find out more about the US film and media industry at first hand.

Students & Staff picking tea on the China visitTurkey Exchange

In July 2009 20 students and four staff enjoyed a fantastic visit to Izmir, Turkey, home of our partner school.

The visit was the culmination of the first year of a project based on the theme of global warming. In March 2010 we welcome our Turkish friends to Blackpool

European Exchanges

All Modern Foreign Language students have the opportunity to practise their language skills abroad whether that be France, Spain or Germany.

Working Holidays!

Many of our courses include opportunities for visits to interesting locations and residential stays. Our BTEC Travel and Tourism students, for example, take part in an exciting visit to Costa Brava and its resorts.

Art Exhibition

Our department of Visual Arts and Media stage a spectacular end of year exhibition. In 2009 this was held in the newly opened “Frame” building on the College campus. The event was largely organised and run by students and brought in many visitors to admire the work on show.

Battle of the Bands

The first BSFC “Battle of the Bands” Competition was held in May 2007 and has become an annual highlight of the
College year.

These events not only involve our music students, but also rock bands from local high schools. Battle of the Bands enables our students to develop a range of skills in the planning and performance of a live event.

Pop Wannabe

It really is time to feel sorry for Simon Cowell! He has to travel the length and breadth of the UK searching for the next pop superstars, when they are actually all right here at The Blackpool
Sixth Form College.

For the third year running, the Pop Wannabe Live Final showcased a superb range of vocal talent from right across the College.

Leavers’ Ball

The Leavers’ Ball is held towards the end of the Summer Term and is for all Upper Sixth students. The event is always enjoyable and a great chance to say farewell to fellow classmates.

The 2009 Leavers’ Ball was held at the Imperial Hotel and those students who attended all commented on what a great time
they had.
