College Campus

CampusThe College is located in a single, quiet and spacious site just outside the town boundary of Blackpool.

The campus contains a number of low-rise buildings, housing our various departments. There are attractive courtyard areas in between the buildings. We have recently invested significantly in new buildings and facilities.

Timeline

In 2001 we opened a new English block and resources centre.

2004 saw the opening of the new Performing Arts building comprising specialist music and dance facilities, new Social Sciences and History accommodation and extensions to the Library and Common Room areas.

In 2005 we refurbished the Dining Room, added a shop and opened a Student Services centre. All College buildings are designated as 'no smoking' for students and staff.

In 2008, the College has a host of exciting new facilities for students and staff. The new Wyre building opened in August and provides state-of-the-art teaching facilities for the Departments of Science and Sport, Tourism and Health. Each classroom and lab has the latest in interactive learning technologies and equipment. The entire building ‘intelligently’ monitors temperature, lighting and carbon dioxide levels and then manages its environment to provide the best conditions for learning as well as reducing energy consumption.

The brand new Learning Resource Centre, named FYi by the students, houses over 120 of the latest Apple Macintosh computers, an extensive and up-to-date book stock all with modern furniture. The FYi (For Your Information) is in constant use and is one of the jewels in the crown of the new Wyre Building.

Not to be out done, the old Science building (Brock) has been completely refurbished internally to provide high quality classrooms for the Department of Business and Information Technology and the Department of Mathematics. The refurbishment is so good it is almost impossible to tell from the inside where the old building ends and the new building starts.

The old Library and LRC have been refurbished to provide additional teaching, toilets and a Medical room. It also includes a new facility in the form of the Focus Centre providing on tap additional learner support for students.

As well as the new developments described above, the College has created an additional Cafe area for students and staff. The Snack Shack, again named by students, seats approximately 60 and sells a range of sandwiches and panninis.

With all of these superb new facilities staff and students look forward to our new Visual Arts building opening later in 2009. Phase 2 will include an open plan visual arts studio called The Frame, a Learning Lounge, our new reception, an extensive courtyard space and classrooms for media, graphics, digital photography and social science. If Phase 1 is anything to go by, the new Medlock building will be a great success.
