Building Project
July 2009 saw the completion of the second phase of the College's £15M Campus Redevelopment Programme.
The first phase, a Centre of Excellence for Science comprises a top floor of science laboratories, a first floor of IT rich classroom space for Sport & Tourism and a ground floor completely dedicated to a state of the art Learning Resources Centre and Library.
The new Medlock building houses our Reception area and the ground floor includes, “The Frame”, an open plan Visual Arts suite, a new Student Services area and a Learning Lounge. The first floor contains IT rich classrooms for Media, Film, Photography and the top floor provides classrooms for Social Sciences. The departments of Maths and Business are located in the fully refurbished Brock building.
The Frame – Visual Arts Studio
The Frame is our new open plan visual arts studio. This will be located on the ground floor of the new building providing an ideal creative environment for students of art, textiles, graphics, photography and fashion.
In addition to the Frame, the new building will also include a first floor of visual arts classrooms and a media production suite.
The Department of Visual Arts and Media provides a wide range of exciting courses for students including Fine Art, Art Combined (3D), Graphic Design, Digital Photography, Textiles, Media Studies, Film Studies, Media Production and a new BTEC Certificate in Fashion and Clothing.

The Contractors, Bardsley Construction Ltd, specialise in the construction of Educational Buildings and are well versed in the problems associated with building on Schools and Colleges grounds. They have recently completed a similar scale project at Pendelton Sixth Form College near Manchester. The Principal of Pendelton College had nothing but praise regarding the way they conducted themselves throughout the scheme.
