Art (Combined 3D)

This diverse course at Blackpool Sixth offers a wide range of techniques spanning both traditional and contemporary practice. The course involves a diverse and personal approach to art with opportunities to explore a wide variety of methods, techniques and processes including research into relevant artists/ designer makers/ crafts. Skills taught in session time and during extra curricular workshops are transferable to all areas of art and enhance student creativity and innovation.

Did you know? Art students hold a final year show and have the chance to show off their work to hundreds of visitors.

Specific requirements

A grade C or above in a GCSE Art and Design subject or BTEC equivalent. Students without an Art and Design GCSE are required to present a portfolio/ selection of their work at interview

 

What will I study?

Mixed media, sculpture, relief, installation, printmaking, textiles, drawing and painting. You will also be introduced to a wide range of contemporary and historical practitioners to inform the development of your own practice.

You will be encouraged to research, experiment and develop personal yet innovative responses informed by relevant artists practitioners. Visits to galleries, universities and outdoor excursions are an important part of the course.

The AS course consists of 2 units

  • Unit 1 is comprised of a 6 week introductory project followed by a 13 week project
  • Unit 2 is a practical exam project undertaken over several weeks

The A2 Course consists of 2 units

  • Unit 3 is comprised of an introductory project followed by an extended final project
  • Unit 4 is a practical exam project undertaken over several weeks

Students also have the opportunity in A2 to organise the final year exhibition.

Assessment

50% exam and 50% coursework in both AS and A2.

 

Where does it lead

Past students have successfully progressed onto art/ design based courses at a variety of universities, into employment for example the Art Council, galleries, museums, art education, art therapy, architecture and some have achieved great success asindependent artists and designer-makers.
