Art & Design - BTEC First Diploma

The Dual Pathway Programme is year one of a three year programme. It allows you to progress smoothly onto a full range
of advanced level applied programmes. For more information about the Dual Pathway: Level 2 Programme click here
This course is available as a BTEC Level 2 Diploma (worth four GCSEs).
What will I study?
This is an exciting and intensive course covering many disciplines. It provides a broad understanding of Art and Design in a practical context.
There are a total of 8 units (60 credits) for the First Diploma and you will learn skills and techniques across a variety of media including drawing, mixed media, painting, printmaking, textiles, clay, wire, photography and computer software packages. Through independent and guided exploration you will produce a body of work for each project taking inspiration from traditional and contemporary artistic practices.
Assessment
100% Coursework and Final Major Piece.
Where does it lead
Many students will use this qualification to either continue with their studies to Advanced Level at the Sixth Form, especially in the many fields of art and media, or as a vocational qualification that will lead to employment in an art and design related field.
