Art (Photography)

Photography will enable you to explore all the key techniques that are needed to practice professionally and successfully, gaining knowledge of both traditional and digital technology across a range of photographic mediums. You will be encouraged to highly personal work in order to create an individual vision and style. We believe it’s all about research, vision, experimentation and knowing your audience. You will gain the fundamental skills, techniques and experience required to communicate effectively and begin an exciting career in the photographic industry.
Specific requirements
A grade C or above in GCSE Art or another art and design subject or BTEC equivalent is desirable. Students without this will be required to submit a portfolio.
What will I study?
- AS Unit 1 – Coursework Portfolio
- AS Unit 2 – Externally set assignment
- A2 Unit 3 – Personal investigation
- A2 Unit 4 – Externally set assignment
At AS level you will develop knowledge of various photographic procedures, using both traditional mediums and digital technology.
You will learn how to research photographers, both contemporary and historical, assessing their contribution to the development of photography.
At A2 level you will be required to build upon the knowledge, understanding and skills gained at AS with greater depth of study.

Where does it lead
The course can lead to careers in the creative industries and past students have gone on to courses in Graphic Design, Photography, Architecture, Fine Art, Illustration and Animation.
