Certificate in Travel and Tourism (Single - One Year)

This course is a BTEC Level 3 Certificate which is equivalent to 1 A level and is taken over 1 year. This course is also available as the Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma (equivalent to 1 A level over 2 years), Level 3 Diploma (equivalent to 2 A levels) and the Extended Diploma (equivalent to 3 A levels).

Tourism is worth £88billion to the English economy. Travel and tourism is one of the largest employers in the country providing approximately 1.5 million jobs. It is a world-wide industry and one that is vibrant, dynamic and interesting. The Travel and Tourism course at Blackpool Sixth has been recognised by The Good Schools Guide for the past three years for teaching excellence and student performance.

There are lots of different and exciting ways that you will learn and be assessed on what you know and what you can do. Much of the work you do relates specifically to what is happening in the industry which means you develop excellent travel and tourism skills and are kept up to date. This is vital to be successful in this ever changing world.

Specific requirements

You must have a genuine interest in travel and tourism. It is not a requirement to have studied Travel and Tourism at school.

Where does it lead

This course provides a direct progression route in to higher education or employment. At university there are degrees in International Tourism Management, Events Management, Travel and tourism with Events, Tourism and Business Management. Career opportunities include working with visitor attractions, travel agents, tour operators in the UK and overseas, hotels, holiday centres.
