Diploma in Applied Science (Forensic)

This course is a Diploma (equivalent to 2 A levels). It is also available as the Extended Diploma (equivalent to 3 A levels).

The BTEC Applied Science qualifications are designed to provide specialist work related programmes of study that cover the key knowledge and practical skills required in the science sector. They provide an excellent route to employment in the science industry or within organisations which make use of science.

What is the difference between the Extended Diploma and the the Diploma in Applied Science (Forensics)?

The Diploma concentrates on the main applied science aspects (biology, chemistry and some physics) with a practical approach, whereas the Extended Diploma also covers the wider aspects of forensics e.g. forensic psychology, criminology and crime scene investigation.  Extended Diploma students cover all the work of the Diploma as well as the additional aspects.

Specific requirements

You will need at least one Science GCSE at grade C or above or a BTEC Level 2 in a Science subject.

What will I study?

The BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Applied Science (Forensic Science) takes a Forensic Science pathway through the choices of
Applied Science modules. For example, these include, in the first year: Fundamentals of Science, Scientific Practical Techniques, Working in the Science Industry, Criminology, Forensic Evidence Collection & Analysis, Perceptions of Science, Genetics and Genetic Engineering.
