Diploma in Creative Media Production

The television and film industries are rapidly expanding areas with constantly changing technology. Throughout this course, specialist modules will allow you to study TV and Film Production via drama, documentary, news, factual reporting and scriptwriting. The course is suited to motivated students who are keen to see their ideas realised and who enjoy working in a creative environment. It is the equivalent of 2 A levels and is designed to give an introduction to the media through practical experience, where you can learn about the processes of media production by making your own texts. You will be required to view 18 certificate materials on this course.

Specific requirements

GCSE grade C in English.

What will I study?

The course is delivered through a series of assignments that are supported by theory and practical sessions. Productions are worked on both in the classroom and on location using professional equipment and edited on digital editing suites.

The main ethos of the course is that you learn by doing. The course is approximately 65% practical and 35% theory (the majority of this forms background research and planning for your productions).

Throughout the course you will work on a programme of video production assignments. Productions may include:

  • Music Video
  • Documentaries,
  • Film Trailers
  • Short Films
  • Advertising
  • Work for External Clients

Throughout this period, you will be developing your media production skills in conjunction with your assignments. The second
year further develops skills through a variety of practical modules including Production Management and Editing Techniques. This is complimented by in-depth studies into the film and TV industries.

Assessment

100% coursework.

There are no exams for this BTEC course. Each assignment has detailed criteria which are clearly explained so you know what is required. Assignments are mainly practical but you will need to submit production files, ts and articles as directed. Your performance throughout a production will also be assessed.

Where does it lead

The course is a recognised stepping stone to both Degrees and HNDs in Media Production, and is highly regarded as it offers both the appropriate qualification as well as the experience of working on productions with the industry standard technology.
