Diploma in Performing Arts

This course is available as a Level 3 BTEC Diploma (equivalent to 2 A levels) or Extended Diploma (equivalent to 3 A levels)
Performing Arts is the perfect course to study if you want to go on to work in the entertainment industry – prospective actors, presenters and other performers will gain a great deal from this course which will develop all your performance skills in order to give you the best chance of succeeding in a competitive industry. You will be involved in a wide range of performances and will develop your skills in all the disciplines you might need as a performer – You will act, dance and sing at different points on the course.
Specific requirements
GCSE or BTEC in relevant subject is helpful (ideally Drama/Performing Arts but Dance also considered) but where students have not had the option to study this at school other aspects will be considered.
If you do not have a formal qualification in a relevant performing subject (drama, performing arts, dance) then you should be able to evidence significant experience in performing at independent drama schools or youth theatres. If none of these can be provided then you will be asked to perform a short audition to assess suitability.
What will I study?
You will be involved in a wide range of performances and will develop your skills in all the disciplines you might need as a performer – You will act, dance and sing at different points on the course.
You will also need to produce research, presentations, logbooks and essays to go along with lots of exciting practical work.
Assessments will cover
- Different styles of acting (from Physical Theatre to Musical Theatre)
- Improvisation and Scripted Drama
- Devising (Creating original drama)
- Theatre for children
- Dance skills for all performers
- Vocal skills for singers and actors
- Understanding the business
Assessment
100% coursework, with performances, logbooks and essays all contributing to your final grade.
Where does it lead
The course can lead to Drama, Dance or Performing Arts courses at University or Drama School but previous students have also studied a diverse range of degrees with primary teaching, sociology, media, music performance and psychology being just a few examples
