Diploma in Sport & Exercise Science

In recent years, sport and exercise scientists have been a growing presence in the world of sport, and as we look to the future all the signs suggest their influence in sport will increase.
Students enjoy this course because they can tailor their assessments around their own sports and really deepen their personal understanding. We have strong links with UCLan and Leeds Metropolitan University and their Sport and Exercise Science department, with access to their state of the art testing laboratories.
Specific requirements
Double CC in double Science at GCSE is required. A single award in Science will be considered at a grade B.

You will study 6 units in each year
Year One
- Anatomy for Sport and Exercise
- Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise
- Sport and Exercise Physiology
- Sport and Exercise Psychology
- Sports Coaching
- Research Methods for Sport and Exercise Sciences
Year Two
- Practical team sports
- Sports Biomechanics in action
- Analysis of sports performance
- Research Project in Sport and Exercise Sciences
- Work Experience
- Fitness training and Programming
Assessment
100% coursework.
There are no external assessments for the course. The assessment will be through coursework, which will include a variety of assessment methods for example reports, leaflets, posters and observation of practical activities
Where does it lead
After completing the course students can work towards a number of careers, for example P.E. teaching, sports coaching, physiotherapy (if taken with a science A level), personal training, sports journalism, sports development, sports equipment designing. Over 90% of our students go on to study sport/ sports science at degree level at university.
