Extended Diploma in Sport (Performance & Excellence)

This course is an Extended Diploma (equivalent to 3 A levels). It is also available as a Level 3 BTEC Diploma (equivalent to 2 A levels). For details on the Level 3 BTEC Diploma click here

The sports sector in the UK has more than 36,000 employers creating work for more than 600,000 full-time and part-time employees. There is an increasing demand for well qualified people to move into careers in sport. Students enjoy this course because they can tailor their assessments around their own sports and really deepen their personal understanding. The course offers opportunities for students to use their theoretical knowledge and apply it practically such as attending and analysing a Wigan Warriors rugby match as part of their Analysis of sports performance unit.

Specific requirements

Students must have a strong interest in sport - both the practical and theoretical aspects.

  • Instructing Physical activity and exercise
  • Organising sports events

Assessment

100% coursework.

There are no external assessments for the course. The assessment will be through coursework, which will include a variety of assessment methods for example reports, leaflets, posters and observation of practical activities.

Where does it lead

After completing the course students can work towards a number of careers, for example sports journalism, sports development, PE teaching, sports coaching, sports equipment design, personal training. Over 90% of our students progress on to higher education to degree courses in sport.
