German

German is a great language to learn. It combines well with any subject. Study German at Blackpool Sixth and you will have some fun (ever been in a German Soap Opera?), watch some good German films, and most importantly learn to speak German very well!

Did you know? The A2 German course over the last 3 years has had the highest percentage of A and B grades in the college.

 

Specific requirements

B grade or above in GCSE German

 

What will I study?

  • You’ll learn the sort of German which is to do with young people in our world today
  • Topics range from leisure and youth culture to media and the environment
  • You will study German from the Internet, magazines, films and from ‘chatting’ to German friends
  • You will learn how to understand articles and films
  • You will learn to understand the grammar and speak with a good accent
  • We concentrate on modern up to date German!

Assessment

AS: 2 Units

  • Unit 1: Speaking test worth 40% of AS marks
  • Unit 2: Listening, Reading and Writing worth 60% of AS marks.
  • This includes an essay on a topic we have studied
     

A2: Further 2 Units

  • Unit 3: Speaking test worth 40% of A2 marks
  • Unit 4: Listening Reading and Writing, worth 60% of total marks. This includes a culture essay on a film we have studied

Where does it lead

Language translation skills are highly sought after in the International business world. It is also a popular subject for secondary and primary school teaching as well as in the Tourism sector. Students can combine German with another subject like Economics, Business Studies, a Science, Law and International Tourism for study at University.
