You should seriously consider Mathematics if you already enjoy Maths and feel confident in the work you have met so far at GCSE. Although it is a challenging subject, it is also extremely rewarding. You will develop skills that are much sought after by employers and Mathematics qualifications can help you towards a future career in industry, business, finance and science and technology as well as many others.
Specific requirements
You need to have at least a grade B in GCSE Mathematics. Students with a grade B are invited to attend a course lasting three half-days following their GCSE results prior to the start of term.
What will I study?
The AS year consists of three modules which are:
- Core 1 - Algebra, Quadratics and Coordinate geometry
- Core 2 - Trigonometry, Sequences and topics that will be new to you – Calculus and Logarithms
- Statistics 1 - this module consists of data representation, probability and discrete random variables
In the A2 year a further three modules are studied: Core 3 and Core 4 (which both build on the work covered in Core 1 and Core 2) and either Decision 1 or Mechanics 1
Assessment
- In the AS year you will be examined in each of the three modules, one in January and two in June
- In the A2 year you will be examined in each of the three modules, one in January and two in June
Where does it lead
