Former student and author returns to Sixth Form after 25 years

3 March 2010

Students from the Blackpool Sixth Form were given the inspiring opportunity to meet former student and author Jonathan Eaves, who talked about his comic fantasy novel Rude Awakenings.

Jonathan, who graduated from Sixth Form in 1987, returned for the first time in 25 years to talk to students his novel and how we was able to have it published. He also discussed his writing influences and gave the students advice on how to become a writer.

Jonathan said, "I’m delighted to have been given the opportunity to visit my old college and talk with the staff and students. I was most impressed by the questions posed by the students - they were all very well thought out and certainly kept me on my toes! It’s obvious that there’s been a huge amount of change since my day, and the facilities here now are absolutely fantastic. It’s been a very enjoyable visit, and I would just like to thank all the staff and students for welcoming me so warmly."

The students, who were able to have their copies of Rude Awakenings signed, found the discussion extremely interesting and many commented on how much they enjoyed reading it.

English Literature and English Language student Karen McCann commented, “I really enjoyed the book. I found it unique and different to anything else I have read which made meeting him very interesting. I definitely found his advice for becoming an author useful and hope to put it to good use.”

Chris Powers, who also studies English Literature said, “I found it inspiring! It definitely made me think about becoming a writer. I have not read the book yet but I am now going to go and buy a copy.”
