Students take part in archaeological excavation in Thornton
Six Classical Civilisation students from Blackpool Sixth have taken part in an archaeological excavation at Bourne Hill in Thornton unearthing some remains from the Bronze Age.

It has taken a few months of work with Wyre Archaeology but the results have made the work worthwhile! The site was speculated to be a Bronze Age settlement and judging from the aerial photogroaphy, contour survey and geo-phys this looked a safe bet.
What they believe to have have found is a whole complex of buildings. Students from the Sixth Form excavated a whole line of post-holes of the main roundhouse and a very intriguing small stone structure, possibly covering some type of cremation remains.

This is a project that the Sixth Form will be working on with Wyre Archaeology on a regular basis and they are giving our students some excellent excavation experiences.
