Art Stars Lead the Way in a Fantastic Set of Results
Students and staff at The Blackpool Sixth Form College are celebrating yet another year of fantastic A level and BTEC results. With an overall pass rate of 98% and almost half of all students achieving high grades, there is certainly plenty to celebrate. 21 A level subjects and 16 BTEC subjects have had 100% pass rates.

The results for students in Art and Design subjects have been simply stunning. In both Art (Combined 3D) and Graphic Design one in three students achieved the newly introduced A* (A star) grade for their performance. A further 22 Art students achieved A stars in Fine Art, Digital Photography and Textiles. All this is clear evidence not only of the outstanding teaching and learning which takes place but also the excellent equipment and facilities available in the purpose-built art complex, “The Frame”, which was opened last year. The Sixth Form is continuing to develop its site with building underway for a new theatre and additional classroom accommodation for English and Modern Foreign Languages which will open at the start of the 2011-12 academic year.
Achievement in the highly regarded BTEC National qualifications has also been remarkable with 193 distinction grades awarded. The Sixth Form’s wide curriculum and flexible choices are allowing increasing numbers of Fylde Coast students to excel and set themselves on track for a brilliant future.
Principal Felicity Greeves commented, “We are delighted by these results which represent so much hard work by our students and their teachers. Our results once again confirm that Blackpool Sixth is a place where students succeed. We are very proud of them.”
