Blackpool sixth student captains the England National Colleges’ team to two victories
Blackpool Sixth Form student Brett Whitehead’s rugby league career is going from strength to strength after being given the honour of captaining the England Colleges’ national team in two recent victories against Scotland and the French Catalan Dragons Academy.
Brett, formerly of Beacon Hill High School, played an important role in the Sixth Form’s Rugby League Academy last year, under the guidance of Academy Manager Paul Moran and coach Joe Connell, and as a result was selected to attend North of England trials in Leeds where he made a second half appearance scoring a hat trick of tries to cement his place for the national England Trails.
Brett, who studies BTEC Sport (Performance and Excellence), was selected to captain the England Colleges’ team in two away games this summer. The game was in Scotland against their academy team and the second was in France to face the Super League team, the Catalan Dragons Academy.
Brett paid particular thanks and acknowledgement to his Sport tutors saying “It was a real honour to be selected as captain for the England team.”
Academy Manager Paul Moran also states “Brett has a fantastic ability when it comes to rugby league, he is a fantastic team player and is always willing to help his teammates in order for them to progress. Everyone at the Sixth Form is very proud with what Brett has achieved and we hope to have similar success with the Rugby Academy this year.”
Brett, who studies at the Sixth Form, began his rugby career at Blackpool RUFC at the early age of 7 years old. Following this he joined Blackpool Scorpions RFL to start his glittering rugby league career. After seven successful years, he has now joined Wigan St Patricks.
