Pre-Sixth tasks for Social Science
Below are the tasks for each course which we would like you to complete to prepare you for the start of term:
Politics
Find an interesting political article from a newspaper and write a critic about the content and opinions contained in the article. This needs to be completed and brought to the first Politics lesson after summer where it will be taken in an considered by the tutor.
Psychology
Pick a founder of a psychological perspective (behaviourist, psychodynamic & cognitive) and identify:
- How they explain behaviour.
- What research method they use from within that perspective to investigate behaviour.
Sociology
Task one
Define sociology in no more than 20 words.
Task two
Using the link below find a minimum of 4 areas of social life sociologists are interested in studying.

Task three
Research one of the following famous sociologists and identify 5 facts about them and describe a key idea that they wrote about.

Task four
Using YouTube research ‘feral children’ and identify three ways in which they act differently to other children bought up by their families. What might this tell us about human behaviour.
Bring your research to your first class … presented either as a poster/ information sheet or leaflet and we will put it up in your classroom.
