Pre-Sixth tasks for Visual Arts and Media
Below are the tasks for each course which we would like you to complete to prepare you for the start of term:
Art (including Fine Art, Art Combined 3D, BTEC Art and Design)
Look at a variety of artists that inspire you. Produce 2 or 3 observation drawings in pen and pencil A5 size. The object drawn must be in front of you and could consist of cups, saucers, flowers, household objects, shoes etc.
Art (Graphic Design) & Photography
You should be visiting galleries and exhibitions getting influence and inspiration from current practicing artists.

Watch a recent British film of your choice. Write a short synopsis (outline) of the film and its plot, and then list 5 ways in which the film is recognisable as British (as opposed to the usual Hollywood blockbusters)
Media Production
Watch a modern horror film of your choice & either:
1] Write-up what happens in the story, who are the characters? How does it end? [300 words]
2] Storyboard a sequence from it. For example, the opening or end scene [2 pages]
Media Studies
Visit the website mediaknowall.com and click on the AS/A2 section. Have a read around as many of the different areas as you can, paying particular attention to the Key Concepts section, to familiarise yourself with some new terms and ideas that will help you get a head start for next year.
Put together a mini portfolio/scrapbook of cuttings from current music magazines of any genre - front pages, articles, photos, headlines and fonts, etc, that you like and find interesting. All of this will be used to help you plan and research for your AS Media Studies coursework, where you will be designing and creating 2 front covers and a double-page spread for a new music magazine.
