Blackpool Sixth is able to provide support for you if you have any additional needs. This support often begins before you enroll with us, and will always be available throughout your time with us.

Possible support concerns include mobility and wheelchair access, visual or hearing impairment, dyslexia, dyspraxia and medical conditions such as diabetes or epilepsy. We are also able to deal with other types of need, as and when they arise.

Additional Support Information for Applicants

If you are applying to us and think you will have additional support needs during your time at the College, then you should contact the tutor in charge, Mrs Lloyd. You can get in touch with her via the usual College address and telephone number or you can send an e-mail to her directly at learnalert@blackpoolsixth.ac.uk.

Once Mrs Lloyd has established your needs, you will be contacted by a member of the Additional Support staff. Each of the team members specialises in a different area of support.

If appropriate, a Transition Plan will be offered to you to give you special contract with the College. This plan is simply the set of arrangements we make to ensure your move to the College is trouble-free.

The plan may include:

  • Visiting the College during June and July to get used to facilities
  • Getting to know and keeping in touch with the Additional Support staff
  • Further explanation of the support which will be provided when you start College

On enrolment day, you should visit the Additional Support table to confirm and document your support needs. The Additional Support staff will be on hand to answer your questions and provide any further guidance you need.

As part of your induction when you join us, you will be provided with an Additional Support Agreement. The Agreement is a written plan for the provisions College has put in place to support on your chosen courses. This plan is reviewed within the first 10 weeks of your first term at College and is open to alteration. You will need to negotiate changes to the Agreement with your Additional Support Tutor.

A Disclosure Agreement forms part of your Additional Support Agreement. You need only discuss and disclose your support requirements as far as you wish to do so and only with the people you choose. The College allows you to choose your desired degree of confidentiality.

This information will be recorded in your Disclosure Agreement and will be strictly adhered to by College staff.

All being well, you should start your life at College well supported and able to study without unnecessary difficulty. However, it is quite possible that your support needs will change or that you will discover unexpected problems that require further support.

You may review your Additional Support Agreement at any time and discuss any changes you would like to make with your personal tutor or with a member of the Additional Support staff.
