Supporting students with Learning Difficulties & Disabilities
The Blackpool Sixth Form College is a fully inclusive College with experienced staff who each have a specialism.
We advise you to disclose your additional needs to us before you start at College. Please talk to us at Open Evening. This is so that we can make any preparations and adjustments for you in advance. You could make contact through email to learnalert@blackpoolsixth.ac.uk at any time before or during your course.
You will be invited in for a discussion with the Head of Additional Support or another member of our team to discuss your needs and how we can best support you during your time at College.
We are willing to be flexible to meet your needs - these can be discussed. You may like to bring along a parent / guardian / carer or friend etc to your interview. Together we will develop your Additional Action Plan.

Medical Needs
With your permission, tutors will be informed of your medical condition(s). This will help them to understand if you are absent for a period of time due to ill-health. Tutors will email or send work home so that you can keep up if you need to be off College.

Exams
We may be able to provide you with alternative exam provision to help you achieve your best in exams- this is based on evidence to show your entitlement, perhaps a statement or a letter from your Doctor or other professional. All of this can be discussed further according to your
individual requirements.
Progression
We will help you to consider your next move forward. We provide:
- Accompanied careers interviews
- Accompanied visits to Universities / other institutions
- Help with applying for the DSA (disabled students allowance)
- Contact with disability officers at future establishments
- 'Progression Statement’ which explains the level of support received, to help in planning for your future.
Negotiate Change
You have the opportunity to negotiate change. You may choose to join the 'Torch Bearers' Focus group.
