Business Support Information
"The extent to which the college meets the needs and interest of learners and employers is Outstanding" - OFSTED, JUNE 2009
Blackpool Sixth Form students are SUCCESSFUL students!
Our broad and flexible curriculum means that our students can put together a programme which matches their individual needs and aspirations. Our pass rates for both A level and BTEC courses are excellent and our students leave us with a strong foundation for further study and employment.
Some 85% of our students progress to University and the others use their coveted Level 3 qualifications to find good employment and training. Blackpool Sixth makes a major contribution to the local economy by providing outstanding education and skills development to over a quarter of the young people of the Fylde Coast.
Our 17 vocational courses also benefit from support from local employers. Volunteer speakers play a key role in ensuring that staff and students remain focussed on the needs of their sector.
Work related skills are developed very effectively through employer placements and enterprise opportunities.

Career Academy
The Career Academy programme, launched in September 2009, helps to raise the aspirations of students intending to follow a career in Business, ICT or Finance by working in partnership with local employers. Each student completes a 6-week paid internship, receives regular visits from Guru Lecturers and is assigned a Business Mentor from a local firm.

Partner in Business
The ‘Partner in Business’ scheme is run by Blackpool Sixth to allow students the opportunity to link with local businesses and business people, to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the work place prior to them leaving Sixth Form. It will also provide these students with transferable skills including producing successful CVs, interview techniques and how to demonstrate using professional standards in the work place. All skills which are needed to succeed in the transition of college to work.

Career Preparation & Work Placement Opportunities
A large number of our students benefit from work placements in the local community and public sector. Our Work Placement Officer helps to place our students with an employer. This experience gives valuable insights into their chosen career, enhances their CVs and enriches their UCAS applications.
If your organisation can offer work placements, work shadowing or visiting speakers for our students please contact our Work Placement Officer, Louise Logan, on 01253 307094 or email llogan@blackpoolsixth.ac.uk
Current work experience providers can download our emloyer evaluation forms here. Please return these by email or post to Louise Logan, Work Placement Officer at llogan@blackpoolsixth.ac.uk
