Sport and Enrichment

AcademiesAs part of the College’s commitment to developing and broadening your skills and enjoyment of Sixth Form life, we offer a varied programme of additional activities. Some of these activities can lead to a qualification or Sixth Form certificate so you will be required to be committed and dedicated right through the programme.

All students follow an individual enrichment programme made up from some of the activities described on page 21. We want you to enjoy your time at college as much as possible. We have in the college, a Sport & Recreation Development Officer who organises clubs, groups, projects, charities, and theme days, and a Work Placement Officer to organize voluntary work and other activities.

These will provide opportunities for you to meet like-minded people and develop a wide range of skills and interests.

The Enrichment Programme has four Pathways.

Performance and Excellence

This includes our sports academies in Basketball (Male and Female), Football, Rugby League, Rugby Union, and Netball. There’s also our Big Band, Concert Band and Choir.

Music students

Leadership Academy

This includes our Sport and Physical Activity Volunteering, Community Volunteering and Mentoring, along with our high profile Eco Action, and Duke of Edinburgh groups.

Career Aspirations and Work Experience

Choose an enrichment course that will enhance your career choice. We offer British Sign Language Level 1, Pre-Teaching, Pre-Journalism, Pre-Medical, Humanities Society and Engineering. Our Work Placement Officer will help place you with an employer. This experience will give valuable insights into your chosen career.

Sport

Sport students

The Sixth Form offers a wide range of sport and other physical activities and the majority of our students choose to participate in one or more of them. Many take part for exercise and enjoyment alone, whilst others are members of one or more of our successful Sixth Form teams.

Team sports at the Sixth Form have never been stronger. We run teams in badminton, basketball (male and female), hockey (mixed), netball, rugby (male), football (male and female) and swimming. Many of these teams compete in the British Colleges’ League and National Schools’ competitions, which gives students the opportunity to compete at national level and be selected for British Colleges’ national squads.
