Career Support
One of the great strengths of our Sixth Form is the support we offer to our students when they are making decisions about what to move onto next.
For around 75% of our students, that next step means University or other Higher Education. We are able to provide high quality support to all those who apply through the UCAS (University and Colleges Application System).
This support begins in the Lower Sixth year with talks about Higher Education and encouraging initial thoughts about potential course choices. In the first term of the Upper Sixth, Personal Tutors work closely with the applicants in their groups to help them finalise choices and complete the applications in good time.
The Personal Tutors are assisted in this by a number of specialist UCAS Tutors.
The Sixth Form arranges visits to University Open Days and has very active links with local universities such as the University of Central Lancashire and the University of Lancaster. We also provide a special programme to help those who wish to apply to the universities of Oxford and Cambridge and those who are applying for Medicine courses.
For those who are looking at other forms of training or at employment at the end of their college courses, we also provide plenty of support and guidance. Connexions Personal Advisors come into the college every week and students can make appointments with them at any stage in their studies. We also have four members of staff who act as Careers Tutors, supporting Personal Tutors with careers work.
There are also opportunities for work experience placements, so that students can sample different work environments during their time with us.
