Transport Support
Concerned about the cost of coming to college? If you choose to study at Blackpool Sixth, we will do everything possible to support you.
Transport Bursary
Students who have a household income between £16,190 and £20,817 and who live outside a one mile radius from College are eligible for a Transport Bursary of £160 per year plus eligibility to buy Blackpool Transport ZoneCards at the subsidised price.
Before applying, please check your distance away from College (FY3 7LR) “as the crow flies” using the website below. However, the final decision on distance away will be based on the College map.
www.freemaptools.com/distance-between-uk-postcodes.htm
Students receiving the Guaranteed Bursary or the Income-assessed Bursary are not eligible for the Transport Bursary.
What do I need to do to apply for a bursary?
Apply now if you meet the eligibility criteria for a Guaranteed Bursary, an Income-assessed Bursary or a Transport Bursary.
You need to complete an application form and return it to Student Services as soon as possible. Application forms are available from the College website or from Student Services. Please make sure that you include the appropriate evidence with your application.
We will assess your application and send a “Notice of Entitlement” explaining how much bursary you will receive.
Applications should be submitted before Friday 19th August to guarantee that your bursary will be available at the start of term. Applications after this date will be processed as soon as possible.
How will I get my bursary?
The Bursary will be paid in instalments:
• Guaranteed Bursary paid in 10 instalments of £120
• Income-assessed Bursary paid in 10 instalments of £70 plus a bonus in July
• Transport Bursary paid in two instalments of £80 in November and January
The money will be paid directly into the young person’s bank account.
What can the money be spent on?
The money is for transport, books, meals or other course-related costs needed to help you to succeed at College.
Will I automatically get this money?
No. You must attend a minimum of 95% of lessons to qualify for payments.
Subsidised Transport
Blackpool Sixth recognises that the cost of transport is a major concern for some young people and their families. The subsidised transport scheme not only helps with transport costs to and from College but may also provide unlimited travel throughout the day, including evenings and weekends.
We provide a significantly subsidised transport scheme for all students living outside a three mile radius from College. Before applying, please check your distance away from College (FY3 7LR) “as the crow flies” using the website below. However, the final decision on distance away will be based on the College map.
