GCSE Ancient History is the study of some of the most famous individuals and key events from the ancient world. From Persia and Egypt to Rome and Greece, you will study a range of fascinating history.

At least two grade 4s plus at least three grades at 3 or above, including at least grade 3s in English and Maths.

- What will I study?
- Unit one – The Persian Empire: Learn about the rise of one of the largest empires the world has ever seen. Study Cyrus’ treatment of conquered peoples; the madness of Cambyses; the anger of Darius; and Xerxes’ attempt to conquer the Greeks.
- Unit Two – Alexander the Great: Investigate the reign of one of the most famous leaders of all time. Learn about how this young king of Macedon conquered the vast Persian empire within ten years. Study his military tactics; examine the light and shadow of his character; and judge whether he should be remembered as ‘the Great.’
- Unit Three – Foundations of Rome: Discover how the ancient world’s most famous city began. Evaluate the tension and conflict between Rome’s rich and poor. Investigate how the actions of a tyrannical king led to the formation of a republic and set Rome on its path to greatness.
- Unit Four – Cleopatra: Study Cleopatra’s relationships with Julius Caesar and Mark Antony. Analyse the complexity of her character and the difficulty of her position as Queen of Egypt. Assess one of the greatest and famous love stories of all time and learn how it tragically ended.
