COURSE OVERVIEW
The GCSE course is designed to support students in achieving another GCSE and to facilitate students onto a broader range of A Level subjects.
EXAMINATION BOARD: AQA
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
To join this programme you will need 4 GCSEs at grade 3 (or equivalent). One of either English language or maths needs to be at least a grade 3 whilst the other needs to be no less than a grade 2.
Why study GCSE ECONOMICS at Blackpool Sixth?
GCSE Economics is an excellent course designed to increase students' knowledge of current affairs and improve their understanding of the economy. A good understanding of the world will help students understand how events around the country and the world will impact their daily lives.
How will I be taught?
You will be taught in 5 sessions a week with additional independent study tasks to ensure your progress towards a Grade 4 or above.

The course is a 100% exam and will be split into 2 papers.

- What will I study?
The subject content looks at economic activity through the lens of consumers, producers,
government, and the workings of the global economy. As students go through the course they’re
presented with opportunities to focus on real-world issues. Students should consider and reflect
upon moral, ethical, and sustainable issues that arise as a result of the impact of economic activity.

Paper 2 – How the economy works:
7. Introduction to the national economy
8. Government objectives
9. How the government manages the economy

GCSE economics is a subject that can open many gateways into many fields as it incorporates topics from other subjects like business, finance, geography, and maths.
Where does it lead?
For Transition Programme students, successful completion of this programme, when combined with your existing GCSEs at grade 4 or above, will give you 5 GCSE equivalent qualifications. This will allow you to move onto our level 3 courses.
