COURSE OVERVIEW

For those with a passion for mathematics, this course will develop your understanding of fundamental ideas with the introduction of complex numbers and matrices. You will also study applied units in discrete mathematics and mechanics to discover new areas of interest.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

A minimum of grade 7 in GCSE Mathematics. You must also take A Level Mathematics as one of your other courses.

Why study A Level Further Mathematics at Blackpool Sixth?

A supportive and collaborative atmosphere, taught by highly qualified mathematicians. To develop you further, we offer a stretch club and many mathematics competitions such as the UKMT. We offer tailored support for students looking at mathematics degrees. Student will gain access to our website consisting of lessons with full solutions and a variety of practice questions to help prepare them for their studies.

How will I be taught?

Lessons are taught by subject specialists in a collaborative environment. Students are provided with many learning opportunities to work individually and in small groups; including working on whiteboards around the classrooms. The department has a website, where students can access lessons, resources, and support videos.

    Where does it lead?

    Mathematics and Further Mathematics are versatile qualifications, well-respected by employers and are both “facilitating” subjects* for entry to the most selective universities. Careers for men and women with good mathematics skills and qualifications are not only well-paid, but they are also often interesting and rewarding. People who have studied mathematics are in the fortunate position of having an excellent choice of career. Whilst the number of young people studying A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics is increasing there is still a huge demand from science, engineering, and manufacturing employers. Further mathematics is great for those interested in reading mathematics, physics or engineering at university.

    FORMER HIGH SCHOOL: Lytham St Annes Technology & Performing Arts College

    Luke is an incredibly talented student who excelled in BTEC Performing Arts – Musical Theatre, achieving an impressive Triple Distinction Star grade. Luke has decided to take a gap year to audition for colleges but dreams to attend a top London-based college, and eventually make it to the West End. We have no doubt that Luke will achieve great success in his future!
