COURSE oVERVIEW

This course is designed for students who wish to explore and develop their technique, choreography and analytical skills of dance. It provides exploration of a variety of genres and styles including; contemporary dance, jazz dance, post modern dance, pop dance and lyrical dance. BTEC Level 3 Dance is a practically assessed course, and can be taken as either a single course or as a triple course. Students on the triple course cover the same content as the single course but also take further modules from the BTEC Level 3 Performing Arts course with a dance focus.

Please note that this course can not be taken in combination with any other BTEC Performing Arts

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

A minimum of two years’ dance experience and a grade 4 in GCSE English Language would be desirable.

Why study BTEC Level 3 Dance (Single) at Blackpool Sixth?

You will have teachers who have trained at prestigious institutes and are highly experienced in both their craft and teaching and learning. You will use a professional dance studio and a state-of-the-art theatre, which seats 300 people.

How will I be taught?

You will have 4 classes per week, which take part in the professional-standard dance studio. You will be required to complete written work for homework tasks such as research and evaluations, as well as essays and coursework. This will prepare you well for the academic rigour required at university level.

Teacher expertise

Lucinda Campbell is the teacher of the dance course, trained at Merseyside Dance and Drama College, Liverpool; UCLAN and Royal Academy of Dance London. She is the Head of the Department and has worked as an examiner for A level for many years and is also a BTEC Standards Verifier Examiner. Lucinda worked as a dancer, teacher, and choreographer across the UK and at international arts events.

What skills will I develop?

You will develop your movement vocabulary, your knowledge and experience of different genres and styles of dance as well as developing your performance, technique and choreographic skills. You will also learn how to analyse dance by looking at professional set works. You will develop communication skills, leadership skills, team building skills, creativity and confidence.

Where does it lead?

Students have progressed onto numerous prestigious dance/drama schools such as; Performers, Bird, Urdang, The Hammond School, LIPA, SLP, Centre Pointe as well as prestigious universities such as Middlesex, Roehampton and Surrey. Careers can be in performance, teaching, choreography or community dance work.
