Strong pastoral care, support and guidance are extremely important in contributing to students’ success. Your pastoral mentor will offer advice and guidance to help you settle in quickly and enjoy your time with us. You will have a weekly tutorial session with your Pastoral Mentor and there are also regular 1:1 meetings, where individual targets are set and reviewed. Your pastoral mentor will also help you to make the right decisions about career choices and applications for higher education or employment, as well as offering the Life Links Programme that aims to provide support and guidance through your time at Blackpool Sixth and prepare you for life after college.

Blackpool Sixth offers an extensive extracurricular activity programme called 6Xtra. 6Advance is an exciting range of ‘academies’ designed to enable ambitious students to prepare for university and prestigious future careers. Each 6Advance choice will provide participating students with excellent activities and skills-building to help them go beyond the exam curriculum and apply their knowledge and skills in challenging contexts. In so doing, they will discover more about about a general subject or job area and will build up a great portfolio for applying to highly selective universities or higher apprenticeship programmes. You will develop exceptional employability skills, including, leadership, collaboration and teamworking, public speaking and confidence. Find out more here.

The LGBT Group was set up by a former student who felt that the LGBT+ community did not have a voice in College. When it was created it only started as a small group of students. However, over the past years the group and community has grown and is now part of the 6Xtra programme so every student has the opportunity to join. Find out more about the group here LGBT+ Group.
