A Level Art: Fine Art
COURSE oVERVIEW
Fine art encompasses the personal study, investigation and exploration of painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, mixed media, sculpture and installation. Researching contemporary and historical artists underpins and enhances your development. Please note that this course cannot be combined with A Level Art, Craft and Design.

If you do not have GCSE Art, it is advisable to have attended taster sessions and open events.
Why study A Level Art: Fine art at Blackpool Sixth?
All projects are tailored and personalised, students are encouraged to explore and develop their ideas through guided and independent study. Former students have been shortlisted for, and have won, a number of national awards and exhibited their artwork at many events in house and externally including Sainsbury’s, Booths Gallery Lytham and Alexandra Palace London.

Teacher expertise
The staff are very experienced in teaching A level. All staff have relevant practical degrees, ranging from illustration to fine art. Staff are skilled in a number of 2D and 3D techniques and processes.

During the second year of this course you will have the opportunity to pursue a more personalised approach focusing on your own specialised interests and strengths. Whilst producing a personalised portfolio you will continue to explore, develop and study new techniques and skills in a variety of media developing a greater understanding of your own contextual influences.

You will need access to basic drawing and painting equipment at home. Approximate costs £15
- Field trips, projects and employability opportunities
We often invite contemporary artists to work with our students. Over the past few years we had several visiting artists work with our students in practical workshops and ex-students visiting to discuss current degree courses or their line of employment. Annually we attend the UCAS, “Design your Future” event in Manchester. Visits and trips have included Edinburgh, Liverpool, Falmouth, Verona and New York. Strong links are continuing to develop with several universities through portfolio review sessions, talks and tours. Students have taken part in a number of enterprise activities, entered various competitions, live briefs and worked on many community art ventures.

Where does it lead?
Former fine art students have gone onto successful careers in roles such as International fine artist, surface pattern designer, illustrator, interior designer, art historian, gallery curator, architect and animator.
