Supporting students at Blackpool sixth

We’re here to support you during your time with us. This page outlines the available types of support for students, but it is not an exhaustive list. Do not hesitate to ask if you cannot see what you need here. Someone on our team will be able to help.

Progress Mentors

Pastoral care relates to physical and emotional welfare and is essential to student success. On entering the college, we allocate a progress mentor to you, offering advice and guidance that helps you settle quickly into college life.

Your progress mentor covers the pastoral curriculum - a programme of student support sessions that cover topics such as career advice and guidance, mental and physical well-being, and life skills like managing your finances - in weekly group sessions. These sessions help to prepare you for life after college, but if you need to discuss your individual needs, there are opportunities for that too.

One-to-one meetings with your mentor allow you to discuss your academic progress, personal development and individual improvement targets, helping you to make career and higher education decisions that are right for you. Your mentor will also suggest events on campus that complement your learning.

Equality and diversity

We challenge discriminatory behaviour and celebrate diversity, creating a college culture where staff and students flourish. During your time here, we want you to achieve your full potential. If you feel that any form of discrimination affects your ability to enjoy campus safety and our on-site facilities to the full, please speak to a staff member about how they can help.

I’d like to see your equality and diversity statement.

Additional learning Support

Our large team of dedicated staff supports students who have special educational needs and/or disabilities which may affect their learning. We also provide emotional support through counselling. We work with you to ensure you have all the support you need to make your studies at Blackpool Sixth a success.

transport and financial support

We also offer packages of financial support to students who need help with any costs related to studying with us.

Technology Support

We encourage all students to bring a laptop or tablet to their lessons to aid their learning. If you don’t have a device and are worried about the cost of electronic equipment, please contact us via the page below. There are college bursary schemes and access funds that can help.

I’d like more information on technology support.
