Subsidised transport support at Blackpool Sixth
Affordable travel for all. Start your new journey with us at Blackpool Sixth by taking advantage of our subsidised transport options.
Blackpool Sixth recognises that the cost of transport is a concern for some young people and their families. Our subsidised transport schemes not only help with transport costs to and from college but could also provide unlimited travel throughout the day, including evenings, weekends and during the college holidays.

More students will be eligible for free travel
We are increasing the household income thresholds on our bursaries so more students will be able to access free transport.

Additional travel support for those who need it most
We are introducing a new transport bursary with a higher household income threshold than other bursaries that will bring down the subsidised travel costs even further for a significant number of students.

Subsidised travel passes for all
We will offer subsidised transport to all students so that travel passes are the same price or cheaper than buying directly from our local transport providers.

Subsidised bus passes include unlimited travel including weekends, evenings and holiday periods
Our version of the monthly Blackpool Transport and Stagecoach bus passes provide you with unlimited travel throughout the year, including weekends and evenings and all college holidays.
For students travelling from areas that are particularly hard to reach due to local transport provision resulting in increased travel costs, the college will consider each case individually and will strive to offer financial support to bring costs in line with the average travel cost for other students.

Frequently asked questions – Blackpool Transport
- What does the Blackpool Transport app do?
The Blackpool Transport (BTS) app can be used for planning your journey, checking timetables, buying travel tickets and more. Your mobile ticket is activated and used in the ‘Mobile Tickets’ section.
- How do I obtain my mobile travel ticket?
Once you have made your monthly payment your ticket will be emailed to your college email address and you will just follow the instructions in the email to redeem and activate your travel ticket.
- Do I need the Internet on my phone to use my ticket?
You need to connect to the internet via a 4G connection or WiFi every 72 hours to continue to use your ticket. This is so that your app can download the latest ticket codes which are used to prevent fraud. Every Blackpool Transport bus has free WiFi available.
- My ticket says I need to get ‘verified’ before I can use it – what do I do?
Some tickets bought directly from the mobile app require verification before use. Just follow the instructions on your screen. Verification is automatic and you don’t need to go anywhere, just upload your proof of age once.
- Can I access my ticket on more than one mobile device?
No, you’ll only be able to use your mobile ticket on one device at a time. If you lose your phone, you will be able to login on another device, but this will log you out on the original device. Doing this multiple times will result in your account being locked for 8 hours.
- I’ve been locked out of my account – what can I do?
If this happens it is likely because you have logged in or out too many times within a short space of time. If this happens, contact Blackpool Transport.
- Can I buy a ticket on my phone for a friend?
No, because mobile ticketing is intended to be used by the owner of the phone, you won’t be able to use more than one ticket on the same device.
- Who do I contact if I have a problem with my ticket?
If you have a problem with your mobile app which is preventing you from buying or accessing your mobile ticket you should contact Blackpool Transport or speak to student finance.
