FAQs
- What is enrolment?
Enrolment is the final step in becoming a student at Blackpool Sixth. It’s when you confirm your course choices, have your GCSE results checked, provide identification, and complete your student record. Once you’re enrolled, you’ll be officially on our system and ready to start your studies.
- When do I enrol?
Enrolment takes place in person on GCSE Results Day – Thursday 20th August and Friday 21st August.
You will receive your enrolment appointment by email with a date and time. If you can’t come at that exact time but can come between 10am and 5.30pm on Thursday 20th August or between 9am and 3.30pm on Friday 21st August, then just come when you can. If you can’t come on either day, see the question below about being away or unavailable on the enrolment days.
- How long will enrolment take on the day?
It depends on how busy it is and whether you need to make any changes to your course choices. Everyone’s situation is a bit different, so times can vary.
As a guide, enrolment usually takes around 1–2 hours. - Do I need to enrol in person, or can it be done online?
Yes – you’ll need to come in for your enrolment meeting.
You can complete some steps online beforehand, like logging into your application portal and uploading your ID. However, you’ll still need to attend on GCSE Results/Enrolment Day to have your documents checked, get your photo taken, and confirm your course choices.
- What if I’m away or unavailable on GCSE Results Day or the day after?
If you’re not available on enrolment days, don’t worry – you’ve still got options
🔽 What should I do?
You’ll need to:
Fill in the “Not available for in-person enrolment” form
Book a face-to-face appointment for the next time you’re free
If you haven’t been sent an appointment after the main enrolment days, you can book one yourself.🔽 How do I send my GCSE results?
We’ll still need to see your results during enrolment. You can do this in a couple of ways:
Someone else collects them for you:
A family member can bring your results to your appointment
You receive them by email:
Forward them to admissions@blackpoolsixth.ac.uk
(Include your name + “GCSE Results” in the subject line) - What are my login details for my application?
You created a login when you first applied online.
- Your username is usually your email address
- If you’ve forgotten your password, use the ‘Forgot password?’ link on the portal login page.
- When is Induction?
Induction will take place on Tuesday 1st, and Wednesday 2nd September 2026.
You will be allocated to one of these dates and notified by email. It’s a half-day session and attendance is compulsory. You’ll receive your timetable, collect your ID card, and get to know the college before lessons begin. This will be discussed at enrolment.
- When will I have my photograph taken for my college ID card?
Your photograph for your college ID, will be taken during your enrolment appointment.
- How and when do I provide ID documents?
You will be asked to upload documents to confirm your ID to your application. Please upload one of the following:
- Birth certificate
- Passport
- Any other documents to evidence your residency status
- What do I need to bring with me on the Enrolment day?
When you attend your enrolment appointment at college, you’ll need to bring a paper copy of your GCSE (or equivalent) results.
If you already have GCSEs or other qualifications from previous years, please bring those with you as well.
If you haven’t uploaded your ID before enrolment, make sure you bring it with you to your appointment.
- What if I don’t have my results?
We need to see the official results on enrolment day. If you’ve lost your slip or are waiting for late results, please let us know as soon as possible. Not having your results may delay your enrolment.
- What happens if I don’t meet the entry requirements?
Don’t worry – we’ll talk through your options at your enrolment meeting. We offer a range of courses, so you may still be able to join the college on a different course or pathway.
This could include our Foundation Programme, which is designed for students who miss the entry requirements and want to build their skills before moving on to Level 3 courses. You’ll have the chance to improve your GCSE English and/or maths and gain other Level 2 qualifications to help you progress.
- Can I change my course choices at enrolment?
Yes. You’ll discuss your final course choices during your enrolment meeting. We’ll check your results, interests, and long-term plans to help you make the best choices.
- Can I resit GCSE English or maths if I don’t achieve the required grade?
Yes. We offer GCSE resits in English language and maths for students who achieve less than a grade 4, which is a requirement for your programme of study.
- Can someone come with me to enrolment?
Yes, if you would like support on enrolment day, a parent, carer, or friend can accompany you. However, most of the process is completed with you directly, so please be prepared to speak with the staff yourself.
- What if I’ve applied late or not yet applied?
- If you are aged between 16 and 19 and have not completed a Level 3 qualification, you can apply to study at Blackpool Sixth
- Our entry requirements for Level 3 study are a minimum of five grade 4’s, including GCSE English language or maths, for the Vocational programme. For the Academic programme, you must achieve a minimum of two grade 5’s and three grade 4’s at GCSE, including GCSE English language. For further information, see our entry requirements
