The Blackpool Sixth Student Designing for Lewis Hamilton

At Blackpool Sixth, we pride ourselves on nurturing creativity, and our Upper Sixth student Alex Hargreaves has taken this to a global stage. Alex, who studies Triple BTEC Fashion, Design, and Marketing, recently designed a racing helmet for seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Sir Lewis Hamilton. The design was part of a national competition run by Ineos, a partner of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team.

The competition sought young, creative minds to design unique helmets reflecting themes of personal growth, positivity, and self-belief. Among the winners, Alex stood out in the 17-18 category with a design that combines vibrant teal, fiery red, and bold organic patterns. The phrase “Be Your Highest Self” is emblazoned on the back, reinforcing the message of empowerment.

Alex shared, “For my design, I was inspired by Sir Lewis Hamilton himself. Everyone needs to find their inner flame through positivity and let that guide them on a path of self-love.” He further reflected on how fashion and illustration fuel his passion, adding, “My favourite part of the project was figuring out how to draw self-love on a racing helmet.”

Alex’s work, along with other winning designs, will be displayed during an F1 race weekend, and the winners will also enjoy an exclusive tour of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 HQ.

This competition, organized by Ineos through their Go Humans Academy initiative, underscores the importance of confidence and self-belief in young people. It’s a fantastic platform showcasing Alex’s journey from Blackpool to the world stage, proving that talent and determination can indeed take you anywhere.

We couldn’t be prouder of Alex’s achievements and can’t wait to see what he does next. Keep an eye out for more updates from our talented students!
