  • What will I study?

Description

What is it?

This is a multi-disciplined course allowing learners to develop and refine their skills in numerous aspects of performance. Learners will learn not just about life as a performer and all that this entails but also fully immerse themselves in the wider performing arts world, fully preparing them for further training. Opportunities for regular performances will be paramount to the course and as such the learner should expect to take part in a wide array of performances throughout the course both inside and out of college. All learner work is generated through practical briefs, portfolios and engagement with the industry to develop an appreciation of the industry and their potential role within it.

Why study this subject at Blackpool Sixth?

This course will fully prepare every individual for their potential role within the industry. Whilst embedding the skills required in multi disciplines, the learner will be able to develop these holistically and iteratively allowing them to create a firm basis for future employment in the industry. The facilities are first class and the ever evolving expertise of the staff team will provide you with the very best training. The course itself is fresh and fully caters for all learners wishing to enter the world of performing arts in their future careers.

What skills will I develop?

Cognitive and problem-solving skills: using critical thinking, approaching non-routine problems applying expert and creative solutions, using systems and technology

Interpersonal skills: communicating, working collaboratively, negotiating and influencing, self-presentation 

Intrapersonal skills: self-management, adaptability and resilience, self-monitoring and development. 

How will I be taught?

The course is 100% coursework and you will be taught mainly through practical sessions (8/12 sessions per week). Whilst there are elements of independent study, collaborative learning is at the forefront of lessons and assessments. Preparedness for all practical lessons is essential and whilst not compulsory a commitment to the wider performing arts faculty has proven to have a very clear correlation to achieving the highest grades.

How will I be assessed?

Assessed 100% through coursework and practical performances.

All teachers are subject specialists with clear area specialisms allowing for really high quality teaching and learning.

Field trips, projects and employability opportunities

Strong working relationship with the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) and The Academy for Live and Recorded Arts (ALRA) who run several workshops, trips and auditions are held throughout the year to give the students current and professional expertise and experience. Visits to watch plays, musicals and local amateur performances are arranged to allow students to experience live theatre as well as work experience opportunities with the likes of Radio Wave, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, The Grand Theatre and the BBC amongst many others!

Where does it lead?

The course is designed to train students to become performers and work professionally in the performing arts industry. However, the vast experience that the students will gain can also lead to jobs in teaching, sound and lighting design, costume and set design, directing, marketing and PR to name but a few. Our students travel the length and breadth of the country and abroad after they leave sixth form. This year has been our most successful year to date with more students than ever going on to study at prestigious institutions. Students have gained places at The Hammond, Goldsmiths, The Arden Theatre School, Italia Conti, Performers College and the University of Creative Arts in London to name but a few!

What will I study?

What will I study?

You will develop technique and performance skills in acting, vocal and movement work in this course. You will also develop your ability to create your own work and will explore a range of techniques and styles to enhance your existing repertoire. This course will build your foundations in acting, and working in an ensemble to create live productions for an audience.

Personal Performing Arts Profile

  • Using development plans to refine skills

Collaborative Performing Arts Project 

  • Using a defined creative or admin role
  • Using a creative collaboration to develop a project
  • Producing a collaborative project

In this course you will study acting, vocal techniques and movement techniques. Your main subject discipline will be acting and performing arts in its entirety. You will develop all of your performing arts skills to prepare you to be an all round performer. Preparing you for a successful career in the performing arts. You will learn about career paths and artistic roles and their associated practice. You will develop a strategy of career progression and demonstrate professional practice and behaviour in planning and responding to your career goals. You will build a portfolio and CV that communicates your progression aims.

You will learn how to respond to a brief, preparing you for the world of work in the industry. Apply problem solving and technical skill in response to the brief in a professional manner. You will take part in numerous public performance to develop your confidence and skills in performance techniques as well a developing your knowledge and skills in the musical theatre
