BTEC Level 3 Sport (Double)
COURSE oVERVIEW
BTEC Sport is an innovative course that develops knowledge, understanding, and experience in a range of sporting topics allowing for progression to university or into employment.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Vocational level 3 courses are advanced courses, we require five grade 9-4 passes (or equivalent) including English language or maths.
Why study BTEC Level 3 Sport (Double) at Blackpool Sixth?

Students on this course also have the opportunity to take an additional qualification in sports leadership (Community Sports Leaders).
How will I be taught?
Classes are student led with a variety of activities, guided by outstanding teachers linked to real life scenarios. There is a great mixture of classroom and practical-based activities.
Teacher expertise
You will be taught by very well qualified and experienced teachers with a variety of sporting expertise in international rugby, hockey, weight-lifting, netball and basketball. Our teachers have a vast amount of industry experience including personal training.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed in a number of ways which provide variety and opportunities for creativity. These include exams, internally assessed coursework and externally assessed projects/set tasks.

A range of textbooks and other relevant publications are available in the FYi or departmental resource area. Subscription to appropriate periodicals is also available through the department. There are also a range of revision guides available through Amazon and students will be directed to these once on the course/ appropriate unit(s)
There are day visits included as part of the course that students are encouraged to participate in. These may incur a cost to cover transport and entrance to the visited organisation. In total, the estimated cost of these essential visits over the two years of the course will be approximately £100. There may be other non-essential educational day and residential visits that students can access during the two year course.
Any student undertaking work experience with young children or vulnerable adults may need a DBS check to go out on a work placement. The cost of the DBS check is currently £38. Payment is made when students bring in the completed DBS form and evidence of identity to Student Services.
Students will be expected to purchase a Blackpool Sixth sports kit, polo shirt and training top to be worn during practical sessions, leadership activities and work experience, approximate cost £45. (essential bundle)
- Field trips, projects and employability opportunities
With strong links with Fylde Rugby Club, Blackpool FC and Fleetwood Town FC there are a number of opportunities to explore the world of professional sport. Links with Blackpool Council will enable you to explore sporting initiatives locally and the impact these have on your community, and further experiences in health and fitness. There are a variety of work experiences in areas such as personal trainer, lifeguard/sports instructor, sports coaching and development, sports teaching and various roles within the leisure industry. Students on this course also have the opportunity to take an additional qualification in sports leadership (Community Sports Leaders).
Where does it lead?
Students go on to study a range of sports-related degrees at university. Popular choices include Leeds Beckett for sports coaching, UCLAN for sports therapy, Liverpool John Moores, Edgehill University for teachin, Manchester Metropolitan University for sports development. Students have also gained employment as Foundation Sports Coaches and sport teaching assistants.
