
What is it?
BTEC Sport is an exciting coursework, externally assessed and examined course. This range of assessment caters for all types of students. BTEC Sport is an innovative course that develops knowledge, understanding and experience in a range of sporting topics allowing for progression to university or into employment.

How will I be taught?
Classes are student led with a variety of activities, guided by outstanding teachers linked to real life scenarios. There is a great mixture of classroom and practical-based activities.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed in a number of ways which provide variety and opportunities for creativity. These include exams, internally assessed coursework and externally assessed projects/set tasks.
Teacher expertise
You will be taught by very well qualified and experienced teachers with a variety of sporting expertise in international rugby, hockey, weight-lifting, netball and basketball. Our teachers have a vast amount of industry experience including personal training.
Field trips, projects and employability opportunities
With strong links with Fylde Rugby Club, Blackpool FC and Fleetwood Town FC there are a number of opportunities to explore the world of professional sport. Links with Blackpool Council will enable you to explore sporting initiatives locally and the impact these have on your community, and further experiences in health and fitness.
There are a variety of work experiences in areas such as personal trainer, lifeguard/sports instructor, sports coaching and development, sports teaching and various roles within the leisure industry
Where does it lead?
Students go on to study a range of sports-related degrees at university. Popular choices include Leeds Beckett for sports coaching, UCLAN for sports therapy, Liverpool John Moores, Edgehill University for teaching, Manchester Metropolitan University for sports development. Students have also gained employment as Foundation Sports Coaches and sport teaching assistants.
Equipment
Sport Kit purchased through Pro Am Sports. This consists of a compulsory T-shirt and jacket with the option to purchase kit shorts and tracksuit bottoms. This is a technology for learning scheme so an Ipad/Chromebook/Laptop is required for daily use.
