GCSE MATHEMATICS
COURSE OVERVIEW
The GCSE course is designed to support students in achieving a grade 4.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
You are normally expected to have achieved at least a grade 2 in GCSE Maths but we will take into account individual circumstances.
Why study GCSE Mathematics at Blackpool Sixth?
GCSE Mathematics is a key qualification for future study and careers and is often asked for by employers and universities. Good numerical skills are important throughout life e.g. in managing your finances.
How will I be taught?
You will be taught in 4 sessions a week with additional independent study tasks to ensure your progress towards a Grade 4.

All staff are qualified maths teachers who are passionate for you to succeed in securing the Grade 4 and will offer you the support you need.
What skills will I develop?
You will improve your skills and confidence across the full range of the maths syllabus and be well prepared for the exams.
How will I be assessed?
100
%- 100% exam, taken over 3 papers in the summer term: one without a calculator and two with a calculator. For some students there will be a chance to sit the papers in November.
What will you study and other information about GCSE Mathematics
- First Year
This course will follow the Edexcel specification for GCSE Foundation Tier Mathematics. General content will include Number, Algebra, Shape and Space, and Data Handling. You will study selected topics designed to give you the best chance of achieving a Grade 4 in one year.
- Equipment and Financial contributions
Students are required to have a scientific calculator. The recommend model is FX-83GTPLUS.
- Field trips, projects and employability opportunities
GCSE Maths is a key qualification for future employment.
Where does it lead?
For Transition Programme students, successful completion of this programme, when combined with your existing GCSEs at grade 4 or above, will give you 5 GCSE equivalent qualifications. This will allow you to move onto our level 3 courses, especially the BTEC or Combined programmes.
