• What will I study?

  Component 1

  Percentage of total marks: 50%

  Method of assessment (coursework, exam, etc.): 3 hour exam

  This is a foundation for the rest of the course, and any further study of accounting after A Levels. It covers:

  • An introduction to the role of the accountant in business
  • Types of business organisation
  • The double entry model
  • Verification of accounting records
  • Accounting concepts used in the preparation of accounting records
  • Preparation of financial statements of sole traders
  • Limited company accounts
  • Analysis and evaluation of financial information
  • Accounting for organisations with incomplete records
  • Partnership accounts

  Component 2

  Percentage of total marks: 50%

  Method of assessment (coursework, exam, etc.): 3 hour exam

  This component further develops the student’s knowledge and understanding of financial and management accounting.

  This unit of study includes:

  • Budgeting
  • Marginal costing
  • Standard costing and variance analysis
  • Absorption and activity based costing
  • Capital investment appraisal.
• Equipment and Financial contributions

  The Business and IT department runs several trips and educational visits throughout the year to enhance the experience of studying subjects within the department. There may be other non-essential educational visits that students can access during the two-year course, such as visits to universities, conferences, businesses and many more.

  Students are requested to purchase a non scientific calculator (as mobile phones are not permitted to be used as calculators within lessons and exams)
