COURSE oVERVIEW

A creative, exciting and inspiring programme that develops a wide range of production skills including: recording and mixing techniques, composing using technology; synthesis and sampling.

As a student you will have access to industry standard studio facilities to complete coursework and build a portfolio of recordings, arrangements and compositions. You will also have the opportunity to sound engineer live events.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Standard college entry requirements

Any prior experience of using production software will help students become familiar with recording features, edit screens and plugins. Applications including Cubase, Logic Pro, FL Studio to name a few offer free or trial versions of their software for users to experience, many of which are available for PC, MAC and tablets.

Teacher expertise

The Music Technology course leader Ash Goodinson is also a freelance musician and producer working in the industry, performing and producing music for events and venues. His relevant and recent experience enables students to learn current working practices, whilst also gaining links to employers and employment opportunities through a wide range of contacts.

What skills will I develop?

  • Industry standard production skills through coursework and employer engagement

  • Managing entire projects to include musicians, studio time, equipment, mixdown time, showcasing.
  • Communication and listening skills through recruiting and working with recording artists as part of coursework and employer projects
  • Live sound engineering
  • Installation and operation of PA systems for external events held in Blackpool and Fylde Coast venues

Where does it lead?

Her career highlights already include exciting roles such as ‘Cinderella’ in the Grand Theatre’s Pantomime, ‘Standby Ali’ in @burlesquethemusicaluk, and ‘Young Heather’ in @greatest_days.

Luke Moore, achieved an outstanding Triple Distinction* in Performing Arts. He is currently touring the UK with Cirque – The Greatest Show and plans to audition for top London performing arts colleges, aiming for a future career in the West End.

Daniel Millard, graduated with First Class Honours from the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA). Since then, he has performed as a dancer at Eurovision and as a production dancer for P&O Cruises.

Kenzie Nodwell, achieved A* grades in all three art subjects at Blackpool Sixth. She’s now continuing her creative journey at the University of Central Lancashire, studying Illustration.

Jenny higgins

Jenny Higgins studied at Blackpool Sixth before earning a First-Class Honours degree in Fashion Marketing from Leeds Beckett University. Now Head of Marketing at The Travel Village Group, she combines creativity and sustainability, recognised nationally as one of TTG Media’s 30 Under 30 for 2025.
