COURSE oVERVIEW

BTEC Business covers many areas including marketing, recruitment, retailing, human resources and employment law. You will have access to careers including management, marketing, events management, entrepreneurship and finance.

EXAMINATION BOARD: Edexcel

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Standard college entry requirements

Vocational level 3 courses are advanced courses, we require five grade 9-4 passes (or equivalent) including English language or maths.

Why study BTEC Level 3 Business (Double) at Blackpool Sixth?

As part of studying business at Blackpool Sixth you will take part in organising your own event and have the opportunity to participate in the Business Live conference at Disneyland Paris.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught in a wide variety of ways including – group work, independent learning, online learning, teacher-led work, researching and presentation.

Teacher expertise

There is a wide range of experience and expertise in the department. There are staff with over ten years teaching experience who perform roles for the examining boards and standards verification. There are staff with over 15 years of industry experience and there are newer staff with the latest training and most cutting edge knowledge.

A mixture of controlled Assessments, a written exam and course work.

What will you study and other information about BTEC LEVEL 3 BUSINESS (DOUBLE)

    • Unit 1: Exploring Business (Internally Assessed)
    • Unit 2: Developing a Marketing Campaign (Controlled assessment)
    • Unit 3: Personal and Business Finance (Written Exam)
    • Unit 22: Market Research (Internally Assessed)
    • Unit 4: Managing an Event (Internal Assessed)
    • Unit 5: International Business (Internal Assessment)
    • Unit 21 Training and Development the rest is correct.
    • Unit 6: Principles of Management (Controlled Assessment)

  • The Business and IT department runs several trips and educational visits throughout the year to enhance the experience of studying subjects within the department. There may be other non-essential educational visits that students can access during the two-year course, such as visits to universities, conferences, businesses and many more.

    BTEC Business

    Students are requested to purchase a non scientific calculator (as mobile phones are not permitted to be used as calculators within lessons and exams)

    Students are encouraged to buy this textbook:

    • Pearson BTEC Level 3 Business Unit 3 Personal And Business Finance Revision Guide – A handy, pocket sized revision guides written by experts to help students achieve exam success. Designed to encourage short but focused and therefore effective bursts of revision. These guides will help students record their progress and build confidence in their exam technique. CAN BE PURCHASED FROM COLLEGE FOR £6.

    Access to an electronic device to take notes and write assignments is essential. Such as Chromebook/iPad/laptop.

  • As part of taking Business at Blackpool Sixth you will take part in organising your own event and have the opportunity to participate in the Business Live conference at Disneyland Paris. There is also the opportunity to be involved in the Career Ready Academy.

  • Please note that we recommend that you do not take this course with A Level Economics.

Where does it lead?

Students can go on to a wide range of careers after studying business as business sits comfortably ,is relevant to and supports a wide range of other subjects , for example a photographer could study business to support them starting their own business.

Current student Georgia obtained the skills required to gain an apprenticeship at BAE Systems.

Former student Alex went on to Lancaster University to study business further and has now gone on to work in human resources at a major firm in London.
