Love Our Oceans Week - Creative Competitions
Love our Oceans WEEK
Blackpool Sixth’s Eco Schools Committee is organising a Love Our Oceans Week March 24th - March 28th.
The event will highlight the vital role oceans and seas play in the health of our planet and how much we depend on them. It will draw attention to the many threats the oceans face at a time of rapid climate change and habitat destruction, but at the same time celebrate work which is being done to protect our oceans for the future.
As a key part of the week, we are inviting local primary and secondary schools to take part in some exciting creative competitions linked to this important theme.

Age Categories Reception and Year 1 / Years 2, 3 and 4 / Years 5 and 6
Produce an original, hand-produced piece of artwork featuring your favourite sea creature. This should be an animal which lives in the sea or spends a lot of its life in or around the sea. The artwork should be A4 size and can use any medium such as pen, paint or a collage. Please include a short piece of your own writing explaining why this sea animal is important to you and why we should protect it. Computer-based artwork cannot be accepted.

Posters for Sea Change
Lower Secondary - Years 7 and 8
Produce an original poster (A3 size) which highlights a threat to ocean life and presents a solution to the threat e.g. how to keep plastics out of the oceans. The poster will be judged on its presentation, ideas and persuasive power. The poster can be hand-produced or produced using design software.
This would suit a range of different subject areas including geography, science, art/design and English.

Speak up for the Seas
Upper Secondary - Years 9 and 10
Write and perform a short speech aimed at persuading people to take action against the destruction of ocean habitats and sealife. Record yourself making the speech either on video or as an audio file. The speech must all be your own words and should last no more than 3 minutes. It will be judged on the quality of the language used, the content and its persuasive power.
This would particularly suit KS3 / KS4 English, focusing on oral skills and persuasive writing.
