Blackpool Sixth awarded Centre of Excellence status by the Leadership Skills Foundation
Blackpool Sixth HAS BEEN REVEALED AS A CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE BY Leadership Skills Foundation.
The achievement marks a significant milestone for the local college, which has been working on embedding the development of these key skills into its Higher and Community Sports Leaders programmes for many years.
With only 24 schools selected for the 2023-24 academic year from the 2,500 plus that the Leadership Skills Foundation works with annually, the accomplishment is testament to the work of Steve Legge and the Sports, Tourism and Protective Services department at Blackpool Sixth.
"We were delighted to receive the fabulous news that the college has been accredited as a Leadership Skills Foundation Centre of Excellence in light of the exceptional work undertaken as part of our Community Sports Leaders and Higher Sports Leaders provision at the college. The Leadership Skills Foundation describe Centres of Excellence as 'beacon status awarded to centres that deliver high-quality leadership programmes and celebrate the wide-ranging impact that volunteering has in their local communities. These centres are strong advocates of developing leadership skills in young people . The status recognises centres that are going above and beyond with their implementation of leadership thus empowering their learners to believe, lead and succeed'" so this is an amazing accolade to achieve."

The Centre of Excellence title is presented to centres that demonstrate a deeply held commitment to developing essential leadership skills in their learners to help them prepare for future education and employment. To be considered, centres must adhere to a comprehensive list of criteria, including: a commitment to effective leadership practices, pathways for leadership throughout the college and local community, fostering a positive community culture, implementing innovative leadership strategies and maintaining high standards of learner performance.
Richard Chief Executive for the Leadership Skills Foundation said: “We are delighted to award Blackpool Sixth with Centre of Excellence status for the coming academic year. We believe that every young person should be empowered with the skills they need to positively influence their future and their communities. Across the 2,500 centres we work with, Blackpool Sixth offers an incredible experience for its students to develop essential leadership skills and it is a privilege to work with them. We can’t wait to see how they continue to build on their Excellence status.”
