COURSE OVERVIEW

Economics describes the factors that determine the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services. You will research and debate issues such as inequality, financial meltdowns, and human behaviour and interpret data and discuss alternative solutions.

EXAMINATION BOARD: Edexcel A

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

GCSE grade 5 in maths and a grade 5 in English language or literature. If your English language and/or literature is grade 4, then a grade 5 in another essay-based subject will be considered (e.g. history, geography, religious studies).

Why study A Level Economics at Blackpool Sixth?

If you have a passion for knowing and learning about how the world works on both a local, national and international level. If you enjoy debating social issues and coming up with solutions to those issues. If you enjoy learning about a variety of different fields including geography, maths, business, history, politics and sociology, as economics incorporates many of these into the subject.

Teacher expertise

The teaching team are experienced in marking for the exam boards. They have economics and business degrees and experience within industry.

What skills will I develop?

  • An appreciation of the contribution of economics to the understanding of the wider economic and social environment
  • An understanding of a range of concepts and an ability to use those concepts in a variety of different contexts use
  • An enquiring, critical and thoughtful approach to the study of economics and develop an ability to think as an economist
  • A understanding that economic behaviour can be studied from a range of perspectives
  • Develop analytical and quantitative skills, together with qualities and attitudes that will equip you for the challenges, opportunities and responsibilities of adult and working life

What will you study and other information about A LEVEL Economics

Where does it lead?

A lot of students go on to study economics at universities such as Manchester, Durham, and Leeds and we have had a student in recent years go on to study at Yale in the US. Students have also moved onto prestigious apprenticeship programmes including BAE systems and at local accountancy firms such as Champion to complete their AAT qualifications.

Luke is an incredibly talented student who excelled in BTEC Performing Arts – Musical Theatre, achieving an impressive Triple Distinction Star grade. Luke has decided to take a gap year to audition for colleges but dreams to attend a top London-based college, and eventually make it to the West End.
