BTEC Level 3 Performing Arts – Dance (Triple)

COURSE oVERVIEW

This course is designed for students who wish to explore and develop their technique, choreography, and analytical skills of dance. It provides an exploration of a variety of genres and styles including; contemporary dance, jazz dance, post-modern dance, pop dance, and lyrical dance. BTEC Level 3 Dance is a practically assessed course and can be taken as either a single course or as a triple course. Students on the triple course cover the same content as the single course but also take further modules from the BTEC Level 3 Performing Arts course with a dance focus.

Please note that this course can not be taken in combination with any other BTEC Performing Arts course.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

A minimum of two years’ dance experience and a grade 4 in GCSE English Language would be desirable.

You will have teachers who have trained at prestigious institutes and are highly experienced in both their craft and teaching and learning. You will use a professional dance studio and a state-of-the-art theatre, which seats 300 people.

How will I be taught?

Your classes will take place in professional-standard rehearsal studios. You will be required to complete written work for homework tasks such as research and evaluations, as well as essays and coursework. This will prepare you well for the academic rigor required at university level. You will have daily technique classes as well as take part in creative workshops.

Teacher expertise

Lucinda Campbell is the teacher of the dance course, trained at Merseyside Dance and Drama College, Liverpool; UCLAN and Royal Academy of Dance London. She is the Head of the Department for Performing Arts, Music, and Media. She has worked as an examiner for A level for many years and is also a BTEC Standards Verifier Examiner. Lucinda worked as a dancer, teacher, and choreographer across the UK and at international arts events.

You will also have acting and vocal technique lessons by teachers who have all trained extensively in the performing arts and have a wealth of experience both teaching and performing.

What skills will I develop?

You will develop your movement vocabulary, your knowledge and experience of different genres and styles of dance as well as develop your performance, technique, and choreographic skills. You will also learn how to analyse dance by looking at professional set works. You will develop communication skills, leadership skills, team-building skills, creativity and confidence.

In this course you will study all 3 disciplines of; acting, singing techniques and movement skills, however the main focus for this course is dancing. You will learn skills and techniques whilst developing your performance knowledge and abilities in all 3 genres accumulating in live productions created for an audience. You will study a range of styles and influences within performing arts, which will fully prepare you for the world of work outside after your training.

Where does it lead?

Students have progressed onto numerous prestigious dance/drama schools such as; Performers, Bird, Urdang, The Hammond School, LIPA, SLP, and Centre Pointe as well as prestigious universities such as Middlesex, Roehampton, and Surrey. Careers can be in performance, teaching, choreography, or community dance work.
