You will explore all aspects of drama, practical and theoretical, study and perform texts, create original devised work, and learn from professional live theatre.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Standard college entry requirements plus Grade 4 in GCSE Drama if taken, if not, suitable up-to-date experience in performing publicly or for exams will be considered. Grade 5 in GCSE English Language preferred.

How will I be taught?
There are 4 sessions per week in which students will be exploring the set texts practically and experimenting with a wide range of techniques. Performance exams will take place in our professional theatre and in one of our fully equipped black box spaces. Written work takes a hybrid form with both online and written submissions.
Teacher expertise
Sarah Mistry is the teacher of A level Drama and Theatre studies. Having trained in Drama at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire she went on to work as a professional actor for several years before completing a second degree in English Language and Literature and training as a teacher. Sarah has worked extensively as a teacher of Drama and more recently as an examiner. Her passionate approach to the subject sees her running regular trips to the theatre and keen to keep up to date with the latest trends and techniques in the performance world.

What will you study and other information about A Level Drama & Theatre Studies
- What will I study?
- Unit 1: Drama and Theatre – study of two contrasting texts, considering performance and production potential and analysis of live theatre.
- Unit 2 – Creating Original Drama – Original devised drama created by you, inspired by a professional practitioner.
- Unit 3 – Making Theatre – Practical realisation of different scripts, including one performance in front of a visiting examiner.
- Equipment and Financial contributions
Students will need to purchase two plays for their studies. Details of texts will be provided at enrolment and the total cost will be around £14 – funds are available to any students who may struggle to purchase these texts.
- Field trips, projects, and employability opportunities
Theatre visits, audition skills workshop, and performance opportunities in college musical and drama productions.
Where does it lead?
Students use A Level Drama for a wide range of degree programmes, having benefited from the collaborative and analytical skills gained on the course. Recent destinations include LIPA, Manchester, York, Leeds and Lancaster universities.
