ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Why study BTEC IT (Single) at Blackpool Sixth?
We use ‘live’ scenarios, raising funds for charities, and incorporating work experience both virtually and in the local area. Ideal for entry into the workplace or university. Trips to Business & IT Live at Disneyland Paris and New York are highlights of the year. Not to mention our new IT labs and our teacher expertise for this subject.

How will I be assessed?
There are two examined units and two internally assessed units where students will engage in practical tasks to develop their Information Technology skills and knowledge.
- External assessment (66.6%)
Each assessment is taken under specified conditions, then marked by Pearson and a grade awarded. Students are permitted to resit the examination twice. This equates to three attempts in total. External assessments are available twice a year.
- Internal Assessments (33.3%)
Assessed by a Pearson Set Assignment Brief (PSAB), which is set by Pearson and marked by teachers. Where a student has not achieved their expected level of performance for an assignment upon being marked by the teacher, they may be eligible for one resubmission of improved evidence.
Units are assessed using a grading scale of Distinction (D), Merit (M), Pass (P), Near Pass (N) and Unclassified (U). The grade of Near Pass is used for externally assessed units only.
BTEC National qualifications are graded using a scale of P to D*.

Where does it lead?
Our students progress into a wide variety of further study or employment options. We have had students going into apprenticeships such as marketing and social media for the Winter Gardens Blackpool, Civil Service, Victrex and BAE. One student has gone on to study at an American University and is now a member of staff at Blackpool Sixth Form. We also have students going to university to study courses such as systems and networking, website design and game development. Opportunities for Higher level apprenticeships in Cybersecurity is a growing sector in the North West and several students have applied for this sector of employment recently.
